A Note on Harmony
نویسندگان
چکیده
In the proof-theoretic semantics approach to meaning, harmony, requiring a balance between introduction-rules (I-rules) and elimination rules (E-rules) within a meaning conferring natural-deduction proof-system, is a central notion. In this paper, we consider two notions of harmony that were proposed in the literature: 1. GE-harmony, requiring a certain form of the E-rules, given the form of the I-rules. 2. Local intrinsic harmony: imposes the existence of certain transformations of derivations, known as reduction and expansion. We propose a construction of the E-rules (in GE-form) from given I-rules, and prove that the constructed rules satisfy also local intrinsic harmony. The construction is based on a classification of I-rules, and constitute an implementation to Gentzen’s (and Pawitz’) remark, that E-rules can be “read off” I-rules.

Three Meta-heuristic Algorithms for the Single-item Capacitated Lot-sizing Problem (RESEARCH NOTE)
This paper proposes a mixed integer programming model for single-item capacitated lot-sizing problem with setup times, safety stock, demand shortages, outsourcing and inventory capacity. Due to the complexity of problem, three meta-heuristics algorithms named simulated annealing (SA), vibration damping optimization (VDO) and harmony search (HS) have been used to solve this model. Additionally, ...
متن کاملKey membership and implied harmony in Western tonal music: developmental perspectives.
We investigated the role of key membership and implied harmony in adults' and children's perception of tone sequences. Listeners were evaluated on their ability to detect three types of changes in one note of a well-structured Western tonal melody. In one change (out-of-key) the new note was not in the basis key, in another (out-of-harmony) it was in the key but not in the implied harmony, and ...
متن کاملA note on the paper "A multi-population harmony search algorithm with external archive for dynamic optimization problems" by Turky and Abdullah
In a very recently presented paper, Turky and Abdullah [5] proposed a novel multipopulation harmony search with external archive (MHSA-ExtArchive) for dynamic optimization problems. In the experimental results, the authors claimed that their approach could outperform several state-of-the-art algorithms. They also showed the superiority of their method by means of numerical experiments on Moving...
متن کاملEffects of musical training on key and harmony perception.
Even adults with no formal music lessons have implicit musical knowledge acquired through exposure to the music of their culture. Two of these abilities are knowledge of key membership (which notes belong in a key) and harmony (chord progressions). Studies to date suggest that perception of harmony emerges around 5-6 years of age. Using simple tasks, we found that formal music training influenc...
متن کاملUsing a Harmony Search Algorithm/Spiking Neural Network Hybrid for Speech Recognition in a Noisy Environment
The Harmony Search Algorithm (HSA) is a recently constructed algorithm that is based on the improvisation process that musicians often demonstrate in performances [1],[2]. In the HSA each musician plays a note in an effort to find the best harmony with his/her fellow musicians. In the context of Computer Science, this improvisation process corresponds to a decision variable (musician) generatin...
